Student-Athlete Professional Development Program

On Wednesday, February 22, the Wayne State junior and senior student-athletes met at the WSU Football Stadium for a Professional Development Program that included speakers from Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Palace Sports and Entertainment, and the WSU Career Services Center.

The program began with a brief introduction of the speakers, then the student-athletes disbursed into three groups where they rotated from speaker to speaker. For example, Natalie Johnson of Enterprise Rent-A-Car conducted mock interviews with the student-athletes, while Derrick Thomas, a former WSU football player and an employee of Enterprise Rent-A-Car, spoke on the transition from student-athlete to professional. Shannon King, of Palace Sports and Entertainment reviewed resume writing techniques with the student-athletes and Marvin Jacobs of the WSU Career Services Center ended the program with an overview of the career development and placement services offered at WSU.

The response from the program ranged from "I loved it" to it was "helpful, useful, and informative."

The S.A.A.C. hopes to make this program an annual event!
