Wayne State University is tied-for-21st in the nation in the latest 2006-07 U.S. Sports Academy Directors' Cup standings released earlier today. It was the final winter report.
WSU earned 211 points from three winter sports teams (fencing is a combined men's and women's championship).
Wayne State received 60 points in women's swimming and diving based on the squad's 10th place finish at the NCAA Championship earlier this month in Buffalo.
The Warrior fencing teams (men's and women's combined) earned 66 points after finishing eighth at the NCAA Championship last weekend in New Jersey.
WSU's men's swimming and diving squad recorded the best finish in school history (third) at the NCAA Championship in Buffalo and garnered 85 points.
WSU is third among GLIAC schools trailing national leader Grand Valley (1st) and Ashland (9th).
The latest update included the winter sports of men's and women's basketball, fencing, women's ice hockey, rifle, skiing, men's and women's swimming and diving, men's and women's indoor track and field, and wrestling.
The next update will be May 24th and will include the spring sports championships that have concluded.
WSU's best national finish came as the Warriors placed 25th in the nation in the final 2004-05 NACDA Directors' Cup Standings.
