Wayne State University student-athletes and their coaches celebrated National Student-Athlete Day with third, fourth, fifth, and sixth graders from Detroit Enterprise Academy on Thursday, April 6. The student-athletes and coaches played a variety of games from the "RICHER" Program, a NCAA-sponsored program through CHAMPS/Life Skills, such as the "Compliment Car Wash," "Yarn Web," and "Keep It Up." Also, members of the women's ice hockey team played an impromptu game called "Knights and Cavaliers," which got the younger students very excited, while members of the football team tried to pass hula hoops around a circle, with their arms linked to teach team building. Additionally, Jerzy Radz, the men's and women's fencing head coach, brought his fencing equipment and allowed the students to take part in mini-demonstrations, using the foil and rings. For many of the students, this was their first exposure to fencing, and they really enjoyed it! The student-athletes and coaches who attended found their experience at Detroit Enterprise Academy to be very rewarding and are already looking forward to celebrating next year with them!
