Wayne State University is 13th in the nation in the latest 2006-07 U.S. Sports Academy Directors' Cup standings released earlier today. It was the first spring report and included the sports of women's golf, women's lacrosse, softball, women's tennis and men's tennis.

The final set of U.S. Sports Academy Directors' Cup standings will be released on Saturday, June 9, at the NACDA Convention in Orlando. The sports still to be included are baseball, men's golf, men's lacrosse, women's rowing, men's and women's outdoor track and field, men's volleyball and women's water polo.

WSU accumulated 125 points from three spring sports teams -- both softball (tied-for-25th) and men's tennis (tied-for-17th) earned 50 points each, while women's tennis (tied-for-33rd) gained 25 points.

The Warrior men's golf team, which placed fifth in the NCAA Great Lakes Super Regional, will be included in the final report.

The U.S. Sports Academy Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 14 sports -- seven women's and seven men's.

WSU's best national finish came as the Warriors placed 25th in the nation in the final 2004-05 NACDA Directors' Cup Standings.
