In 2008, Mark Henkel entered his second season as a volunteer assistant coach for the Wayne State University Warriors baseball team.

Prior to arriving at WSU, Henkel was a personal baseball instructor and an assistant coach for the varsity baseball team at Ann Arbor Huron High School from 2004-06. He coached 12 All-District players, as well as one all-state player, and helped lead the 2006 squad to the district and regional titles.

Henkel currently serves as a Special Operations Officer in the Detroit Police Department.

Henkel has professional baseball experience, spending time in the minor league systems of the Houston Astros and Baltimore Orioles as well as in the Mexican Leagues. In his spare time, Henkel has found time to run in five marathons and has bicycled from Southern California to Seattle via the Pacific coast highway.

Henkel attended Saddleback College in Mission Viejo, Calif., where he played baseball. He is a member of the Michigan High School Coaches Association, as well as the American Baseball Coaches Association. He resides in Ann Arbor, Mich.
