DETROIT, Mich. - The Wayne State baseball team (13-5, 2-1 GLIAC) earned a 3-1 victory in the third game of the weekend against Mercyhurst (12-7, 1-2 GLIAC) on Sunday afternoon.
Kyle Hill (Mississauga, Ont./St. Michael's) pitched a complete game, surrendering just one run on five hits, walking one and striking out seven. He improved to 3-1 on the season.
The Warriors sent nine batters to the plate in the first inning and scored three runs, aided by a Mercyhurst fielding error. Tony Hines (Detroit, Mich./Mumford) had a sacrifice fly, Jon Weisman (Woodhaven, Mich.) brought in a run on a groundout, and Scott Martin (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) drew a bases-loaded walk.
Hill retired 12 of the first 13 Lakers he faced before as two singles and a groundout produced the lone Mercyhurst run in the fifth.
Derek Ranck (Clarkston, Mich.) was 2-for-3 in the game, while Matthew Williams (Detroit, Mich./Royal Oak Shrine) and Bob Schmidt (Oxford, Mich.) each had a hit and a run scored.
