YPSILANTI, Mich. - Wayne State's baseball team (5-14) allowed two runs in the bottom of the seventh as Eastern Michigan (7-11) came back for a 3-2 win in game one of Tuesday's doubleheaders at Oestrike Stadium.
The Warriors scored first for the fourth straight game as senior Jason Chapieski (Windsor, Ont.) walk, stole second and eventually scored on an error in the first inning. EMU committed three errors in the first two innings in the field.
The Eagles tied the game in the bottom of the third before WSU came right back to take the lead. Senior Adwin Springer (Toronto, Ont.) singled to right center and scored on Tim George's (Quincy, Mich.) RBI-single to center.
EMU put runners on first and second with one out in the bottom of the sixth, but catcher Matt Cunningham (Gregory, Mich.) threw out Josh Ivan attempting to steal and starting pitcher Mat Yenrick (Toledo, Ohio) recorded a fly out to Springer in center to get out of the inning.
Scott Martin (Ann Arbor, Mich.) and Jon Weisman (Woodhaven, Mich.) continued their hitting streaks with bunt singles in the top of the seventh, but WSU, who stranded 10 runners on base, couldn't get an insurance run in its final at-bat.
Freshman Dane Little (Windsor, Ont.), who replaced Yenrick in the seventh, suffered the loss (1-1). Yenrick went 6.0 innings, allowing six hits and two runs while striking out two Eagles.
