YPSILANTI, Mich. - WSU baseball team (5-15) lost back-to-back one-run games as Eastern Michigan University (8-11) defeated the Warriors, 4-3, in the second game of a non-conference doubleheader Tuesday.
Once again, Wayne State was the first team to score as the Warriors put up a three-spot in the second inning. Senior Kurt Kieleszewski (Macomb, Mich.) drew a bases-loaded walk to score Jon Weisman (Woodhaven, Mich.) who reached on an error. Then sophomore third baseman Kyle Miller (Farmington Hills, Mich.) roped a single down the right field line to post two more runs.
Starting pitcher Dan Barnes (Grand Ledge, Mich.) allowed just two hits in the first three innings. In the bottom of the third, Barnes struck out Josh Ivan and catcher Bob Schmidt (Oxford, Mich.) caught Isaiah Gainforth attempting to steal third for a double play.
The Eagles made it a one-run game with a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth then tied it the next inning.
EMU loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the seventh, and scored the winning run with a single to center.
Freshman lefty Dane Little (Windsor, Ont.) (1-2) suffered the loss. Barnes recorded six strikeouts in 5.0 innings while giving up three earned runs on five hits.
Wayne State hosts Concordia on Wednesday in its home opener at 3 p.m.
