Box Score

DETROIT - The Wayne State University baseball team (13-10, 7-2 GLIAC) scored three of its four runs in the second inning of Saturday's second game, a 4-2 victory over the University of Findlay (4-18, 2-7 GLIAC).

Justin Mazur (Macomb, Mich./De La Salle) improved to 4-0 on the year, scattering five hits over 5.2 innings. He walked a pair, struck out five Oilers, and surrendered just two runs (one earned).

Matthew Williams (Detroit, Mich./Royal Oak Shrine) stretched his hitting streak to nine games, matching his career-best, with two hits. Phil Swanson (Rochester Hills, Mich./Stoney Creek) also had a two-hit game.

After the Oilers took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first following back-to-back singles and an error, Mazur struck out the side.

The Warriors' three-run second inning began with a leadoff walk to Michael Wiseman (White Lake, Mich./Lakeland). A double by Swanson and a walk to Kyle Vesey (Brighton, Mich.) loaded the bases for Charlie Dunneback (Lansing, Mich./Grand Ledge), who brought in a run with a ground ball. A bunt single by Williams and a fielding error brought in two more runs.

Findlay pulled to within one on a sacrifice fly by Raymond in the fourth, but an RBI single by Williams in the sixth provided WSU with an insurance run.

David White (Taylor, Mich./Kennedy), who came in for Mazur with two men on in the sixth and struck out Raymond, fanned two more Oilers to secure his second save.

Wayne State and Findlay are scheduled to complete the three-game series Sunday afternoon with a nine-inning contest beginning at noon.
