HILLSDALE, Mich. - The Wayne State baseball team (13-8, 2-3 GLIAC) dropped its first conference road game of the season, a 4-3 loss at Hillsdale (8-13, 1-6 GLIAC) on Saturday afternoon.

Bob Schmidt (Oxford, Mich.) went 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Jon Weisman (Woodhaven, Mich.) hit his third home run of the season.

Wayne State took a 1-0 lead in the first on an RBI single by Schmidt, plating Matthew Williams (Detroit, Mich./Royal Oak Shrine) who was hit by a pitch and stole second base.

An RBI single by Hillsdale's Brandon Hubbard tied the game in the third, but WSU responded with two runs in the fourth. Weisman led off the frame with a solo homer, and a base hit by Brett Witczak (Hudsonville, Mich.) brought in Caleb Dalman (Hudsonville, Mich.), who reached after being hit by a pitch for the eighth time this season, a team high.

However, the Chargers would score three times over the next two innings, including the game-winning run resulting from a WSU fielding error, to take a 4-3 lead that they would not relinquish.

Dan Barnes (Grand Ledge, Mich.) took the loss (3-2) for Wayne State, surrendering just three earned runs on five hits over six innings. Noah Turner pitched a complete game for Hillsdale.
