HILLSDALE, Mich. - A six-run first inning propelled the Wayne State baseball team (14-8, 3-3 GLIAC) to an 8-2 triumph at Hillsdale (8-14, 1-7 GLIAC) in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader.

Anthony Bass (Trenton, Mich.) scattered seven hits for a complete-game victory, surrendering just two runs and two walks while striking out five.

Jon Weisman (Woodhaven, Mich.) homered for the second time in as many games, and Derek Ranck (Clarkston, Mich.) totaled three hits and three runs batted in.

Ranck got things started for the Warriors in the opening frame, smacking a two-run double down the right field line, scoring Tony Hines (Detroit, Mich./Mumford) and Ryan LaPensee (LaSalle, Ont./St. Thomas of Villanova).

Ranck and Bob Schmidt (Oxford, Mich.) came in on Weisman's three-run shot to left center, and Caleb Dalman (Hudsonville, Mich.) tacked on WSU's sixth run with an RBI single, plating Scott Martin (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer).

The Chargers posted two runs in the sixth, but the Warriors quickly reclaimed their six-run lead in the seventh on RBI singles by Ranck and Matt Cunningham (Gregory, Mich./Chelsea).

Wayne State and Hillsdale will square off in another twinbill Sunday at Simpson Field beginning at noon.
