ERIE, Pa. - The Warrior baseball team (7-16, 5-1 GLIAC) suffered its first Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference loss as Mercyhurst (13-10, 2-4 GLIAC) came through for the winning run in the bottom of the sixth to defeat Wayne State, 4-3, in the second game of a conference doubleheader on Saturday in Erie, Pa.
Jon Weisman (Woodhaven, Mich.) RBI-double to left center that scored Derek Ranck (Clarkston, Mich.) put WSU on the board in its first at-bat. But the Lakers scored three runs on three hits and two errors in the bottom of the frame to go ahead 3-1.
Ranck led off the third with a single down the right field line to extend his hitting streak to a team season-best 10 games. Three batters later, Kevin Kadrofske (Roseville, Mich.) stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and doubled down the left field line to score Ranck and Weisman.
After his rough first inning, Wayne State starter Ryan Mosher (Ann Arbor, Mich.) settled in. The sophomore retired 14 of the next 15 batters. Then with two outs in the bottom of the sixth, the Lakers scored the go-ahead run on two WSU errors for the win.
Mosher took the loss (1-3) in 6.0 innings on the mound. He struck out three, walked one and surrendered five hits and two earned runs.
The same two teams hit the field Sunday at noon for another GLIAC doubleheader.
