HILLSDALE, Mich. - An eight-run fifth inning aided Wayne State in recording a 13-3 victory at Hillsdale in the second game of Sunday's doubleheader. The Warriors took three of the four contests on the weekend against the Chargers.
Four Warriors - Derek Ranck (Clarkston, Mich.), Brett Witczak (Hudsonville, Mich.), Jon Weisman (Woodhaven, Mich.), and Ryan LaPensee (LaSalle, Ont./St. Thomas of Villanova) - had a multiple-hit game, while WSU starter Dane Little (Windsor, Ont./F.J. Brennan Catholic) pitched five scoreless innings for the win (2-2).
An error on the Hillsdale shortstop and an RBI groundout by LaPensee led to three runs for Wayne State in the top of the second, and an RBI double by Witczak gave the Warriors a 4-0 lead in the third.
After a base hit by Ranck plated Tony Hines (Detroit, Mich./Mumford), who doubled previously, and Witczak reached on a single, Weisman cleared the bases with a three-run homer, his fourth blast in as many games and sixth of the season.
Caleb Dalman (Hudsonville, Mich.) and Scott Martin (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) each drove in two runs with a single and a double, respectively, to complete Wayne State's eight-run frame.
Hillsdale scratched out three runs on four hits in the sixth, but Hines scored on a passed ball in the top of the seventh to make it a 13-3 game.
Kevin Kadrofske (Roseville, Mich./Lutheran East) pitched a scoreless final inning in relief.
Wayne State will travel to Toledo for a doubleheader beginning at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 3. The games will be broadcast on the Internet via Teamline.
