DETROIT - Sophomore Ryan Mosher (Ann Arbor, Mich.) tied a career-high with seven strikeouts in just six innings as Wayne State (9-21, 7-5 GLIAC) picked up a 4-2 win over GLIAC rival Hillsdale College (11-12, 4-6 GLIAC) in the second game of a league doubleheader on Saturday in Detroit.
Catcher Matt Cunningham (Gregory, Mich.) initiated the scoring as he singled in the third, then scored on an RBI by Scott Martin (Ann Arbor, Mich.). Tim George's (Quincy, Mich.) double down the right field line scored Kyle Miller (Farmington Hills, Mich.) and Jon Weisman (Woodhaven, Mich.) for a 3-0 lead.
The Chargers posted an unearned run in the top of the fifth before Weisman drove in Miller in the bottom of the frame. Mosher gave up another run in the sixth, but posted a solid six innings in the win (2-3). He allowed seven hits and the seven k's in 94 pitches before Jon Swartout (Allen Park, Mich.) threw the final inning. Swartout covered on a double play to end the game and pick up his second save of the season.
Miller increased his hitting streak to six games as Weisman improved his team-leading multi-hit game total to 12.
The same two teams hit the field for a noon doubleheader on Sunday.
