FINDLAY, Ohio - Matt Cunningham (Gregory, Mich.) singled and scored the winning run on Jason Chapieski's (Windsor, Ont.) base hit to left in Wayne State's 4-3 win at the University of Findlay in Saturday's first game of a GLIAC doubleheader.
The Warriors were the first to score as Tim George (Quincy, Mich.) had a lead-off single in the second. After a sac bunt, George scored on Kevin Kadrofske's (Roseville, Mich.) RBI-single to center.
WSU's lead grew to 3-0 in the third as Chapieski walked and scored on an error by the catcher. Then Derek Ranck (Clarkston, Mich.), who singled to get on base, scored on Jon Weisman's (Woodhaven, Mich.) sac fly to left.
The Oilers tied the game with a run in the bottom of the third and two more in the fourth. WSU starter Anthony Bass (Trenton, Mich.) held UF in check the final three innings to earn the complete-game victory (2-3). Bass, who struck out six, including three of the first seven batters he faced, allowed just one earned run and seven hits.
Chapieski's team season-high hitting streak reached 11 games with his game-winning single in the seventh.
