ASHLAND, Ohio - Wayne State was limited to just four hits, two by left fielder Derek Ranck (Clarkston, Mich.), in an 8-1 loss at fifth-ranked Ashland University in game one of Wednesday's GLIAC doubleheader. WSU, who scored its run in the fourth, has not been shutout since March 29, 2005 (6-0 at Central Michigan).

The Eagles got on the board with a run in the first before posting a five-spot in the second inning.

With one out in the top of the fourth, Kyle Miller (Farmington Hills, Mich.) singled to right. Senior Jason Chapieski (Windsor, Ont.) followed with a double to left, improving his hitting streak to 13 games. Miller then scored on Jon Weisman's (Woodhaven, Mich.) sacrifice fly ball to center.

AU added a run in the bottom of the inning, and one more in the sixth to account for its eight runs.

WSU starter Kyle Hill (Mississauga, Ont.) last just 2.0 innings before Dane Little (Windsor, Ont.) finished the contest. Hill gave up six runs (four earned) on nine hits, while Little allowed five hits and two earned runs.
