MIDLAND, Mich. - The Wayne State baseball team (20-16, 9-8 GLIAC) started its weekend series at Northwood (13-20, 3-13 GLIAC) with a 7-4 victory at Gerace Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Jon Weisman (Woodhaven, Mich.) went 3-for-3 with a home run and two runs scored, while Tony Hines (Detroit, Mich./Mumford) and Brett Witczak (Hudsonville, Mich.) each had a pair of hits. Hines also homered and drove in three runs.

Wayne State starter Kyle Hill (Mississauga, Ont./St. Michael's) went the distance and recorded a season-high 10 strikeouts, scattering six hits and surrendering four runs (two earned) and a walk.

The Warriors took a 3-0 lead in the third on a two-run blast to left by Hines and a solo shot by Weisman, his GLIAC-leading 10th home run of the season.

NU's Matt Shields hit a solo home run in the fourth to put the Timberwolves on the board, but the Warriors responded as Witczak singled, went to third on two wild pitches, and scored on a base hit by Hines.

After Northwood rallied to tie the game in the bottom of the fifth inning, Wayne State regained the lead on an RBI single by Matt Cunningham (Gregory, Mich./Chelsea) plating Weisman who led off the inning with a base hit.

The Warriors added two insurance runs in the seventh on RBI singles by Witczak and John Skaggs (Adrian, Mich.).

Hill improved his record to 5-2 and posted his sixth complete game of the season.
