ASHLAND, Ohio - The Wayne State baseball team (24-19, 12-10 GLIAC) earned a 5-1 victory in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader at Donges Field, ending the 13-game winning streak of the 19th-ranked Ashland Eagles (31-12, 17-2 GLIAC).
Dane Little (Windsor, Ont./F.J. Brennan Catholic) went the distance for the Warriors, allowing just one run on six hits, walking one and striking out six while handing the Eagles just their second loss in conference play this season.
Kevin Kadrofske (Roseville, Mich./Lutheran East) put Wayne State on the board in the second inning with a two-run homer to left center, almost a year to the day since he hit his last home run (April 30, 2006 versus Northwood).
Back-to-back hits in the bottom of the second produced a run for Ashland, but Derek Ranck (Clarkston, Mich.) smacked a two-run double to center field to give the Warriors a 4-1 lead in the third.
Wayne State tacked on an insurance run in the sixth on an RBI single by Caleb Dalman (Hudsonville, Mich.).
Little, who did not allow a runner to reach third base beyond the second inning, improved to 3-3 on the season.
Wayne State and Ashland will meet again tomorrow for a doubleheader starting at noon.
