DETROIT - The WSU baseball team (16-31, 14-14 GLIAC) rallied to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh, but Northwood (17-27, 7-17 GLIAC) scored two runs in the eighth for a 4-2 win over the Warriors in game one of Saturday's league doubleheader.
Wayne State starter Kyle Hill (Mississauga, Ont.) started strong with three straight strikeouts over the first two innings. But the Timberwolves scored a run on three singles in the third inning before Hill recorded two more punch outs.
NU went up 2-0 lead as catcher Jeff Nowaczyk led the fourth inning off with a homer over the wall in left.
Wayne State made it a one-run game in the bottom of the sixth when Scott Martin (Ann Arbor, Mich.) singled with one out. Martin scored on Adwin Springer's (Toronto, Ont.) double off the left field wall three batters later.

In the top of the eighth, Northwood's D.J. Hughes hit Hill's 100th pitch of the game out of the park to give the Timberwolves a 4-2 advantage.
Hill (4-5) went 7.1 innings, striking out six and allowed nine hits and one walk. Trent Mulder (5-5) picked up the win for NU as he threw 122 pitches and struck out eight.
Springer led the offense with two hits and an RBI.
