DETROIT - Freshman Anthony Bass (Trenton, Mich.) held Northwood in check with an 8-1 complete-game victory Saturday afternoon at the WSU Baseball Field. Offensively, the Warriors scored in every inning but the fifth to remain in the GLIAC Tournament playoff hunt with a record of 17-31 overall and 15-14 in the league.
Bass gave up a hit to start the game, but got the #3 & #4 batters to strikeout looking. Then Kevin Kadrofske (Roseville, Mich.) put WSU on the board in the bottom of the first with a high chopper that got through the infield to score Scott Martin (Ann Arbor, Mich.) from second.
Wayne State added a run in the second as Adam Schulz (Southgate, Mich.) reached second on an error by the left fielder. Schulz advanced to third on a fly ball then scored on Bob Schmidt's (Oxford, Mich.) sacrifice fly to right center.
The Timberwolves scored their only run of the game on an RBI single with one out in the third. In WSU's half of the third, Tim George (Quincy, Mich.) laced one to right that scored Derek Ranck (Clarkston, Mich.) and Martin. Then Kadrofske, who was hit by a pitch to get on base, scored on a balk to give WSU a 5-1 lead. It is the third time in the Warriors' last four games they have scored on a balk.

In the fourth, senior Kurt Kieleszewski (Macomb, Mich.) had a hard-hit double past the first baseman that drove in Jason Chapieski (Windsor, Ont.) who had a bunt single to get on base.
Jon Weisman (Woodhaven, Mich.) and Schmidt started the sixth by being hit by a pitch. Chapieski drove in Weisman with a single up the middle and Schmidt scored on Kieleszewski's second hit of the day to cap off the scoring.
Bass, who threw 113 pitches, gave up eight hits, one walk and struck out five to even his record at 3-3 this season.
The Warriors wrap up their GLIAC regular-season schedule with Sunday's noon doubleheader against Northwood (17-28, 7-17 GLIAC).
