DETROIT - It truly was Senior Day as the four senior batters combined for eight hits, six runs and five RBI and WSU withstood a late rally to defeat Northwood, 9-7, in the second game of Sunday afternoon's GLIAC doubleheader. The Warriors take the weekend series, 3-1, to finish with a league record of 17-14 (19-31 overall). Wayne State's GLIAC Tournament fate is now in the hands of Findlay who has a four-game series at Mercyhurst next weekend.
For the second time of the day, senior Jason Chapieski (Windsor, Ont.) started the offense with a single. He scored three batters later and senior Adwin Springer's (Toronto, Ont.) base hit to center plated Adam Schulz (Southgate, Mich.) who connected on a single up the middle on an earlier hit-and-run.
In the second, Chapieski hit a pitch to the gap in right center that scored another classmate, Kurt Kieleszewski (Macomb, Mich.). Then Schulz's two-run single to left scored Chapieski and Chris Baroli (Madison Hts., Mich.). The next batter, third baseman Kevin Kadrofske (Roseville, Mich.), hit his second homer of the season on a 1-0 pitch to wrap up a five-run second.

Chapieski and Kieleszewski teamed up for another run in the third as Chapieski's sac fly to right was deep enough to allow Kieleszewski score easily from third for an 8-0 lead.
Junior Dan Barnes (Grand Ledge, Mich.), who had three consecutive strikeouts over the first two innings, took a one-hitter into the fourth. After two hits in the fourth, he got the T'Wolves DH to pop out to catcher Bob Schmidt (Oxford, Mich.) and leave the bases loaded.
WSU's last run came in the fourth as Kadrofske recorded another RBI on a chopper through the left side that scored Ranck.
Barnes limited NU to two hits the next two innings, but Northwood (17-30, 7-19 GLIAC) figured out Barnes in the seventh as Matt Shields hit a grand slam. The T'Wolves scored seven runs on five hits in the inning before freshman Dane Little (Windsor, Ont.) earned the save (2) by getting the final two outs. Barnes (4-4) struck out five batters and walked just one in 6.1 innings of work.
Chapieski was a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI in the game. Schulz, Kadrofske, Springer and Baroli all had a pair of hits as well.
Wayne State travels to Eastern Michigan Tuesday.
