FLAT ROCK, Mich. - The Wayne State baseball team snapped its three-game losing streak with a 4-1 victory over Gannon in the first game of a doubleheader at Flat Rock Community Park on Saturday.

Dan Barnes (Grand Ledge, Mich.) pitched a three-hit complete game, walking one and striking out five, to improve his record to 5-4 on the year and help the Warriors earn its ninth straight win over the Golden Knights dating back to 2004.

Ryan LaPensee (LaSalle, Ont./St. Thomas of Villanova) went 2-for-3 with a run scored, and Derek Ranck (Clarkston, Mich.) drove in a pair.

Wayne State broke a scoreless tie with four runs in the fifth inning. A squeeze bunt by Brett Witczak (Hudsonville, Mich.) brought in Caleb Dalman (Hudsonville, Mich.), and a two-run double by Ranck plated LaPensee and Tony Hines (Detroit, Mich./Mumford). Ranck came in on a wild pitch to make it a 4-0 game.

After giving up a two-out single to Chris Miller in the first inning, Barnes retired 16 of the next 17 batters he faced, surrendering only a leadoff walk to Eric Harpster in the fourth before Gannon scored its lone run on two hits in the seventh.
