ROCHESTER, Mich. - A local rivalry was renewed as Wayne State visited Oakland University for a baseball doubleheader Saturday. The Warriors held a one-run lead going into the bottom of the seventh, but the Golden Grizzlies rallied for two runs in their last at-bat for a 3-2 win in game one.
OU (15-29) scored the contest's first run on back-to-back doubles in the second inning.
The Warriors tied the game in the top of the fifth as senior Kurt Kieleszewski (Macomb, Mich.) hit a one-out double to right center then stole third. Fellow senior Jason Chapieski (Windsor, Ont.) singled-in Kieleszewski with a base hit to left.
Junior Chris Baroli (Madison Hts., Mich.) singled then scored on Chapieski's base hit up the middle to give WSU (19-32) the lead in the top of the seventh. But Oakland scored two runs in the bottom of the inning off Ryan Mosher (Ann Arbor, Mich.) who entered the game for Kyle Hill (Mississauga, Ont.) in the fifth.
Mosher (2-5) suffered the loss in 2.2 innings, while Hill gave up one run on five hits.
Chapieski went 3-for-4 with both RBI, while Derek Ranck (Clarkston, Mich.), Adwin Springer (Toronto, Ont.) and Kieleszewski each had two hits apiece.
