DETROIT, Mich. - The Wayne State baseball team (28-22, 16-13 GLIAC) posted two four-run innings on its way to a 9-0 victory in the first game of Sunday's doubleheader against Gannon (5-42, 1-26 GLIAC).

Making the final start of his career on Senior Day, Kyle Hill (Mississauga, Ont.) became Wayne State's all-time leader with 45 career starts and matched the school record of 24 victories. He surrendered just two hits and struck out four over 6.1 innings to improve to 6-4 on the season.

Derek Ranck (Clarkston, Mich.) went 4-for-4, his first career four-hit game, with an RBI and two runs scored. Senior Bob Schmidt (Oxford, Mich.) had two hits and two runs scored, and Scott Martin (Ann Arbor, Mich.) and Matt Cunningham (Gregory, Mich./Chelsea) each drove in a pair.

The Warriors took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on an RBI single by Ranck, plating Ryan LaPensee (LaSalle, Ont./St. Thomas of Villanova) who started the inning with a walk, stole second and reached third on a throwing error by the Gannon catcher.

Wayne State sent nine batters to the plate in the third and totaled five base hits, including four consecutive with one out. Senior Jon Weisman (Woodhaven, Mich.) and Martin each drove in a run, and a squeeze bunt by Cunningham brought in Weisman. Martin came in to score on an RBI single by LaPensee to give the Warriors a 5-0 advantage.

Three straight base hits to lead off the fourth, including an RBI single by Schmidt, made it a 6-0 game, and a Gannon error contributed to three more runs for Wayne State in the inning.

Senior Kevin Kadrofske (Roseville, Mich./Lutheran East) took the mound for record the final two outs in the seventh.
