CHILLICOTHE, Ohio - The Wayne State baseball team (25-26) had its 2009 season come to an end following Friday evening's 12-3 loss to Northwood (27-22) at V.A. Memorial Stadium, eliminating the Warriors from the GLIAC Tournament.

Northwood, which scored eight runs over the first three innings, was led by Matt Czajkowski who went 5-for-6 with three runs scored.

Pacing the WSU offense were Michael Wiseman (White Lake, Mich./Lakeland), who had two hits and two RBI, and Ryan LaPensee (LaSalle, Ont./St. Thomas of Villanova), who finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.

LaPensee's RBI came on a sacrifice fly in the first inning, giving the Warriors the early advantage before Northwood scored twice in each of the first two frames.

In the top of the third, LaPensee singled, stole second and advanced to third on an error. He would later score on a grounder by Wiseman.

A grand slam by Ryan Palmer in the bottom half, however, put the Timberwolves firmly in control. They scored three more times in the fifth and once in the seventh.

An RBI single by Wiseman in the top of the seventh accounted for the only other WSU run.

Josh Wedesky (Fowlerville, Mich.) took the loss (0-4), allowing five runs on seven hits in 2.0 innings before three relievers combined to finish the game. Matt Toporski (5-3) worked 7.0 innings and gave up three runs (all unearned) on nine hits.

Adam Kaminski (Clinton Twp., Mich./Mt. Clemens) went 0-for-3 with a walk, snapping his 19-game hitting streak.
