Wayne State University had 11 baseball players selected to the GLIAC All-Academic team, the second most in the league for the second consecutive year.
Among the Warriors selected were seniors Jason Chapieski (Windsor, Ont./St. Joseph's), Kurt Kieleszewski (Macomb, Mich./Dakota) and Mat Yenrick (Toledo, Ohio/Waite). Redshirt junior Jon Weisman (Woodhaven, Mich.) along with juniors Dan Barnes (Grand Ledge, Mich.), Chris Baroli (Madison Hts., Mich./Lamphere), Andy Claerr (Rochester Hills, Mich./Adams), Kyle Hill (Mississauga, Ont./St. Michael's) and Bob Schmidt (Oxford, Mich.) were also named to the team as well as redshirt sophomores Matt Cunningham (Gregory, Mich./Chelsea) and Derek Ranck (Clarkston, Mich.).
Kieleszewski and Weisman are both three-time honorees, while Barnes, Claerr, Cunningham and Hill were honored for the second time. Chapieski, Schmidt and Yenrick were eligible for the first time since transferring to WSU, with Baroli and Ranck earning academic accolades for the first time.
To qualify for GLIAC All-Academic status a student athlete must have: a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.0 or greater (on a 4.0 scale); must be a starter or key reserve; and must not be a freshman or first-year transfer.
