Clarion, Pa. - The Wayne State University men's basketball squad (6-5) concluded the non-league portion of its schedule with a 52-44 road victory at Clarion University (5-4) Wednesday evening.

The Warriors started strong building a 14-point halftime advantage at 35-21 aided by 51 percent (15 of 29) shooting from the field. Six different players hit buckets in the opening 20 minutes led by senior guard Kris Krzyminski's (Flint, Mich./Central) 10 points on four-of-four from the field including two triples. He also assisted on four other WSU hoops.

Wayne State's defense was also key to the squad's fourth halftime lead of the season (WSU was 3-0 when leading at the intermission) as Clarion made just nine of 23 from the field (39 percent).

The contest was tied at eight with 15:23 remaining when the Warriors went on a nine to two run as freshman Jerry Oden (Detroit, Mich./Cass Tech) hit a lay-up to give WSU the lead for good. Krzyminski followed with a lay-up, and after a Golden Eagle bucket, hit a triple and freshman Michael Henderson (Flint, Mich./Southwestern) added a hoop for a 17-10 lead at 11:42.

The second half was a totally different story as WSU made only five field goals in the final 20 minutes. Oden's lay-up at 12:25 gave the Warriors a 40-29 lead, while WSU's next bucket was a three-pointer by Krzyminski with 11:47 left giving the visitors a 43-31 lead.

Wayne State would not make another field goal until the 5:09 mark as senior guard Joe Carr (Detroit, Mich./Renaissance) hit a driving lay-up increasing WSU's lead to six at 45-39.

Carr, who finished with a game-high 17 points, scored 10 second half points, while Krzyminski had 14 points.

Wayne State resumes GLIAC play this Saturday with an 8 p.m. tip-off at Northwood.
