Midland, Mich. - The Wayne State University men's basketball team (4-6 overall, 2-4 GLIAC) rallied late from an eight-point deficit only to fall 59-58 at Northwood University (8-3 overall, 4-2 GLIAC) Saturday evening.

The Timberwolves had their largest lead of the game at eight points (59-51) with 2:31 remaining on a lay-up by Antonio Harrison.

After both teams failed on their next possessions, Reggie Stallings (Flint, Mich./Carman-Ainsworth) hit his lone bucket of the contest, this one a triple with 57 seconds left.

Harrison missed the front end of a one-and-one, and Jerry Oden (Detroit, Mich./Cass Tech) scored from inside with 38 seconds remaining to make it a three-point game at 59-56.

Tonoy Marcotullio's inbound pass went into the offensive half of the court for Northwood but only a WSU player was there. After Bryan Wright gathered the errant inbounds, he was fouled on a triple try. He made the first two foul shots pulling the Warriors within one at 59-58. His final free throw missed, but Wright was able to gather the ball after it bounced off a few players.

A couple of missed jumpers by WSU and a turnover by NU's Chris Johnson with four seconds left gave the Warriors one last chance, but Oden's jumper was off the mark.

The Warriors had started strong scoring the first five points of the game and led by 11 at 21-10 with 8:24 left in the first half on a triple by Bryan Smothers (Pontiac, Mich./Northern).

Dale Brundidge (Detroit, Mich./Country Day) led three Warriors in double figures with 14 points. Smothers, in his first game of the season, tallied 12 points and two assists. Shane Lawal (Southfield, Mich./Lathrup) nearly had his second triple-double of the season with 10 points, 15 rebounds and eight blocked shots.

Wayne State returns home to face top-ranked Findlay on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
