Ashland, Ohio - The Wayne State University men's basketball team (7-6 overall, 3-2 GLIAC) fell victim to a hot shooting home team in falling 92-71 at Ashland University (11-6 overall, 3-4 GLIAC) Thursday evening.

The host Eagles made over 61 percent of their shots from beyond the arc in the first half in building a 45-32 lead at intermission.

Ashland scored the first six points of the contest on back-to-back triples by Brett Bartlett. After two free throws by WSU's Will Pierce (Detroit, Mich./Renaissance), AU's Matt Engler scored four straight points giving the hosts a 10-2 lead. Freshman Michael Henderson (Flint, Mich./Southwestern) scored Wayne State's first field goal, a lay-up, at the 17:28 mark.

The Eagles held a 10-point advantage (18-8) following a four-point play by Rob McRae at the 15:18 mark. After Bartlett lay-up made it 22-10, senior Joe Carr (Detroit, Mich./Renaissance) hit a bucket and classmate Kris Krzyminski (Flint, Mich./Central) drained a triple to make it 22-15. The seven point deficit was the closest WSU would get the rest of the contest.

After shooting 50 percent (13 of 26) from the floor in the first half, WSU improved to 54.8 percent in the second half on 17 of 31, but Ashland also improved shooting 61.9 percent on 13 of 21 over the final 20 minutes.

Bartlett had a game-high 30 points, while Krzyminski led WSU with 27 points. Wynn Sarden (Sterling Hts., Mich./Warren Cousino) added a career-high 19 points for the Warriors.

The big scoring difference came from the foul line where Ashland was 25 of 29 (86.2 percent) while WSU made five of nine (55.6 percent).

Wayne State concludes its four-game road trip with a Saturday afternoon contest at #7-Findlay. Tip-off is slated for 3:30 p.m.
