DETROIT - The Warrior men's basketball team came back from 11 points down to snap its four-game losing streak to Hillsdale College on Hall of Fame Saturday at the Matthaei. Wayne State (14-8, 8-4 GLIAC) defeated the Chargers (13-10, 8-5 GLIAC), 76-70, to move into second place in the South Division standings as Gannon was upset by Ashland. Former WSU standout Mary Letzmann was among seven new inductees to the Hall earlier in the day.

An imposing block by Tariq Mills (Cincinnati, Ohio) on Tim Homan's dunk attempt led to an open three-pointer by junior Ethan Banks (Warren, Ohio) to start the game. Hillsdale then scored six in a row until a turnaround sky hook shot by center Erik Parker (Oak Park, Mich.) at the 15:19 mark of the first half.

Senior guard Morris Hall (Detroit, Mich.) drained another WSU three to regain the lead at 10-9, but Hillsdale scored 12 straight for a 21-10 lead with 10:44 left in the first.

Herb Goliday (Royal Oak Twp., Mich.) took control for the Warriors, scoring on three straight field goals to bring WSU within six points, 33-27, with 3:23 left before the half. Hall then rattled off eight straight WSU points as he hit back-to-back treys to come within five of HC with 1:39 on the clock. The Warrior defense then forced a five-second call and Wayne State scored on consecutive offensive putbacks by Goliday and Dwayne Jones (Inkster, Mich.) for a three-point game. The Chargers held a 44-39 halftime lead.

Hall came flying in for a clean block on the Hillsdale 7-footer Chris Skaggs as the Warriors remained within four points early in the second half.

The Chargers went on a five-point run, but pesky defense by Darrell Evans (Detroit, Mich.) transferred to his fast-break bucket. Evans then pulled down the rebound off a missed HC three that led to a three-point play by Parker.

Banks sank a three and pulled down a defensive rebound that led to a pair of game-tying foul shots by Jones with 4:06 left. After a Charger bucket, Goliday made 3-of-4 free throws to take a 70-69 advantage, WSU's first lead since 10-9.

After a missed Hillsdale free throw, Goliday dished off to a cutting Evans for a layup around the Charger defenders. Goliday, playing with four fouls for most of the second half, made three more free throws in the final minute to secure the victory.

Hall led all scorers with 20 points as Goliday finished with 18 and Evans added 16 points, seven assists and four steals. Hall and Evans both played the entire 40 minutes of the game.

Wayne State shot 55.1 percent (27-of-49) from the floor and was 17-of-22 (77.3 percent) at the charity stripe. Meanwhile, the Chargers were just 9-of-20 (45.0 percent) at the foul line.

The Warriors continue their four-game homestand as they host No. 2 Findlay on Valentine's Day at 7:00 p.m.
