BIG RAPIDS, Mich. - The WSU men's basketball team's (10-13, 5-10 GLIAC) streak of nine straight wins over Ferris State University (16-9, 13-3 GLIAC) ended Thursday night with a 70-65 loss at Jim Wink Arena.

Senior Herb Goliday (Royal Oak Twp., Mich.) hauled in an offensive rebound and scored on the put-back jumper for an early 2-0 lead. Goliday had three defensive rebounds, two steals and WSU's second bucket of the night, all in the first two and a half minutes of the game.

The good start continued for the Warriors as junior Kris Krzyminski (Flint, Mich.) hit a jumper and WSU made three foul shots. Then an Anthony Ighodaro (Toronto, Ont.) block on Dennis Springs' attempt eventually led to another Goliday basket that gave the Warriors an 11-0 lead. After holding Ferris scoreless for the first 5:58 of the night, the Bulldogs scored eight straight points in a span of 2:24.

Krzyminski ended FSU's run with a three-pointer that put WSU up by five. Ferris State came back to tie the game at 14 with 7:44 to play in the half, but Jeffrey Ferguson (Toronto, Ont.) had a free throw, block and defensive rebound that led to a Krzyminski jumper. After a quick one-possession trip on the FSU end, Goliday put the Warriors on top 23-18 with his fourth field goal of the half.

Ighodaro hit a jumper with his foot on the three-point line for a seven-point lead, but the Dogs climbed within one point with just over three minutes left in the half.

The game's next eight points all came via free throws with WSU making six of them for a 33-28 lead. Springs' three-point play and a three-pointer by Terrance Shaw gave the hosts their first lead of the game with less than a minute to play. Warrior senior Ethan Banks (Warren, Ohio) fired back with a trey, but two foul shots by Springs with 1.8 seconds left sent the teams into the locker room tied at 36.

FSU went up 40-38 in the second half, but Banks completed a three-point play for a one-point lead with 17:23 to go. The teams exchanged leads over the next two minutes until Goliday scored on a fast-break layup for a three-point margin.

The Bulldogs made their first 15 free throws before missing at the 13:43 mark of the second half. They made their next two from the line to tie the game at 49.

The Warriors scored five unanswered, but Ferris took the lead after seven straight with 10:00 on the clock. Banks went on a five-point run by himself to give WSU a one-point advantage. FSU missed on its next three trips and was held without a point for nearly four minutes, but went on a six-point run.

Down by three, Krzyminski drove the lane and threw a behind-the-back pass to Ferguson who threw down a two-handed dunk with 2:11 left. Those would be Wayne State's final points of the night.

Springs, who finished with 28 points, made four free throws in the final 33 seconds and WSU missed its final five shots.

Krzyminski had a team-high 16 points, while Goliday and Banks had 15 points apiece. FSU went 25-fo-28 from the line, compared to 14-of-18 for the Warriors who held a 35-34 rebounding margin.

WSU travels to Saginaw Valley on Saturday and must win its final two games of the season to have a chance for a spot in the GLIAC Tournament.
