DETROIT - Career nights by Wayne State's senior guard tandem was overshadowed by a 93-90 overtime loss at the hands of Ashland University Thursday night at the Matthaei. Point guard Darrell Evans (Detroit, Mich.) set the school record with 15 assists and Morris Hall (Detroit, Mich.) poured in a career-high 29 points, including a shot to send the game into overtime, but the Eagles (12-12, 6-9 GLIAC) pulled off the season sweep over WSU (15-9, 10-4 GLIAC).

Evans assisted on WSU's first three baskets as the score was tied at six. AU then rattled off five in a row before Hall drained a three-pointer and center Erik Parker (Oak Park, Mich.) made a pair of foul shots to tie the game again.

Hall's second three put the Warriors up 16-15 at the 12:07 mark, but the Eagles answered with four straight points until Evans found Dwayne Jones (Inkster, Mich.) on an inbound play from under the basket.

The Warriors regained their lead at 27-26 as Herb Goliday (Royal Oak Twp., Mich.) made a layup and was followed up with a steal and fast-break dunk by Jones.

Ashland proceeded to go on a 17-10 run over the next four minutes until Goliday dished off to Hall for another trey as the Warriors climbed within three, 42-39, at the half.

A triple by junior Ethan Banks (Warren, Ohio) knotted the score at 43 early in the second half, but three straight WSU turnovers converted into an 8-0 run by the Eagles that was ended by another Banks' three.

AU increased its lead to eight with 12:31 to go in the game, but Evans fed Hall for one more three-pointer to cut the deficit to five. WSU's defense held strong and the Eagles went scoreless for the next four minutes and 28 seconds as Goliday's jumper with 8:04 left tied the game up at 61. After a free throw by AU, the Warriors took a one-point lead, 63-62, on a Hall foul shot, but the Eagles stormed back with five-point run.

Down by one, it was another Evans-to-Hall three-point connection with Evans' game-tying free throw coming on the next possession. Hall then intercepted a pass and drove the length of the court for a layup that put the Warriors up by two with 1:12 left.

AU's Justin Brown made a three-point play to give the Eagles a 77-76 lead with 43.1 seconds to go. After another made foul shot, AU missed and Banks pulled down the crucial defensive rebound. Banks' three rimmed out, but Hall hit the fade-away with 3.9 ticks left to send the game into overtime.

The teams exchanged baskets in the extra session until Hall hit his fifth three of the night to put WSU up 84-82. Ashland scored four straight, but Hall drove and dished out to an open Banks for three-pointer for a one-point lead. Just as they did the first 44 minutes of the game, the Eagles answered and took a three-point advantage of their own. WSU's final three-point attempt fell short as Ashland escaped with the win.

Hall's 29 led all scorers, while Brown had 28 points for the Eagles. Evans finished the night with 15 assists and 13 points for his fourth double-double of the season.

WSU hosts Northern Michigan on Monday night at 7:30 p.m. in a make-up from Jan. 8. It will be Senior Night for WSU's Darrell Evans, Morris Hall and Tariq Mills.
