DETROIT - The Wayne State University men's basketball team (1-0 overall) began its 2008-09 regular season with an 89-59 triumph over Marygrove College (0-2 overall), an NAIA school from Detroit.

A dunk by senior Shane Lawal (Southfield, Mich./Lathrup/Oakland Univ.)) started the scoring but the Mustangs scored eight of the next 10 points for a four-point lead (8-4) less than four minutes into the game.

After the Warriors tied the contest at eight on a lay-up by freshman Reggie Stallings (Flint, Mich./Carman-Ainsworth), MC's Robert Jones scored on a fast-break to regain the lead for the guests.

WSU answered with a 13-5 run over the next four minutes including a conventional three-point play by freshman Dale Brundidge (Southfield, Mich./Detroit Country Day) and three-pointer by junior Bryan Wright (Warren, Ohio/Harding/Lakeland C.C.) on back-to-back possessions.

Wright led all scorers with 12 points at halftime.
