DETROIT - The Wayne State University men's basketball team (2-1 overall) raced out to an early 8-0 lead and never trailed in an 80-50 non-conference win Tuesday night over the visiting Central State Marauders (2-3 overall).

Freshman Reggie Stallings (Flint, Mich./Carman-Ainsworth) scored the first points of the game for the second straight contest. After a missed field goal by CSU, junior Bryan Wright (Warren, Ohio/Harding/Lakeland C.C.) scored from inside. Senior Shane Lawal (Southfield, Mich./Lathrup/Oakland U.) had a dunk following two missed Marauder shots for a 6-0 advantage. Junior Justin Sample (Detroit, Mich./Cass Tech/Detroit Mercy) completed the opening run with a lay-up at the 17:25 mark.

CSU scored the next four points on a lay-up by Reginald Harwell and a jumper by Cole Prophet, but Stallings answered with back-to-back triples before Tiemeyer Thomas hit a three-pointer for the guests.

Freshman Dale Brundidge (Southfield, Mich./Detroit Country Day) responded with a shot from beyond the arc to make it 17-7 at the 13:34 mark. A jumper by Gino Smith pulled the visitors within eight, but the Warriors rattled off six consecutive points for a 23-9 lead nine minutes into the contest.

Lawal tied a WSU single-game record with eight blocked shots which was set in 1989 by Mario Pearson at Oakland University, and equaled by Brian Koscielski in 1993 vs. Northern Michigan.
