DETROIT - Junior center Erik Parker (Oak Park, Mich.) scored a career-high 23 points on 8-of-10 shooting as the Wayne State men's basketball team (4-1) held Central State (4-2) to 27 points below its season average with a 76-64 defeat of the Marauders Wednesday night at the Matthaei.

Parker scored early and often as he accounted for WSU's first points on an offensive put-back. The Warriors jumped out to an early 11-2 lead culminating with a three-pointer by junior Ethan Banks (Warren, Ohio/Harding) at the 16:47 mark.

CSU would then make a 12-2 run of its own to take a one-point lead. Parker scored on three straight WSU possessions, including a dunk from senior guard Darrell Evans (Detroit, Mich./Mott CC). The Warriors went on an 11-point sprint, ending in a Morris Hall (Detroit, Mich./Mott CC) three-pointer as WSU held Central State scoreless for 7:12. Wayne State carried a 36-28 lead into the locker room.

Parker scored six straight points to start the second half, including another dunk. Banks followed with a three to give WSU its largest lead of the game at 45-30 with 18:00 left in the game.

Wayne State held a double-digit lead until the Marauders came within seven with 4:15 remaining, but the Warriors held CSU at 61 for over three minutes, with a meaningless Central State three coming at the buzzer.

Parker scored seven of his 23 at the line where he was 100 percent and recorded his third double-double of the season with a game-high 10 boards. Hall finished with 21 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Banks and Herb Goliday (Royal Oak Twp., Mich./CMU) added 10 points each for the Warriors who improved to 13-1 in non-conference games under head coach David Greer.

WSU returns to GLIAC action Saturday at Hillsdale.
