Ypsilanti, Mich. - The Wayne State University men's basketball team (3-3 overall) lost its second game of the season against a Division I opponent with a 67-47 setback at Eastern Michigan Monday night.
Reggie Stallings (Flint, Mich./Carman-Ainsworth) hit a three-point shot on WSU's second possession to knot the game at three. The Eagles scored 11 of the next 14 points for an eight-point advantage six minutes into the contest.
A jumper by Bryan Wright (Warren, Ohio/Harding) and a triple 25 seconds later made it a three-point game at 14-11.
EMU had leads between five and 13 points (27-14) until the Warriors went on a 17-5 run over a six minute period to pull within one at 32-31 with 2:24 remaining on a jumper by Justin Sample (Detroit, Mich./Cass Tech).
Shane Lawal (Southfield, Mich./Lathrup) split a pair from the foul line then Sample had a tip-in with 12:21 left cutting the deficit to 14 at 53-39.
Sample's bucket would be WSU's last points for over 10 minutes until Nick Waller (Harper Woods, Mich./Grosse Pointe North) hit a jumper with 2:08 remaining.
Wright led WSU with 14 points (all in the first half). WSU shot 40 percent (12-30) in the first half, but only 18 percent (5-28) in the second half.
Brandon Bowdry scored a game-high 19 points, while Solomon Farris added 15 points.
EMU held a 39-37 advantage on the boards. Stallings had a team-high seven rebounds for WSU.
Wayne State's remaining 20 games are all conference contests starting with a 7:30 p.m. home game on Thursday against Northwood.
