DETROIT - The Wayne State University men's basketball team (5-5 overall) recorded a 73-65 non-conference victory over Indianapolis (5-3 overall) Thursday evening at the Matthaei giving head coach David Greer his 100th collegiate coaching victory (83 wins at WSU, plus 17 at Tiffin).

Senior guards Joe Carr (Detroit, Mich./Renaissance) and Kris Krzyminski (Flint, Mich./Central) combined for 50 points as each made five three-pointers.

The Warriors started strong despite allowing the Greyhounds to score the first two points of the game as WSU tallied five straight on a jumper by senior Will Pierce (Detroit, Mich./Renaissance) and a triple by Carr. After a jumper by UI's DeAndre Brock, Carr nailed another three-pointer for an 8-4 advantage at the 17:10 mark. UI's Justin Barnard made it a two-point game (8-6) with a bucket, but Wayne State scored 10 of the next 12 points for a 10-point lead at 18-8 following a three-pointer by Krzyminski.

Indianapolis cut the deficit to nine as Reed Ludlow split a pair of free throws to make it 20-11 at the 8:04 mark, but the Warriors responded by scoring 10 of the next 12 points for a 30-13 lead with 4:31 left following a fast break lay-up by Carr.

UI outscored WSU 9-8 the rest of the way to cut the Warriors' halftime lead to 16 at 38-22. Wayne State shot 62.5 percent (15-24) from the field during the opening 20 minutes, while holding Indianapolis to 28.6 percent (8-28) including 1 of 10 from beyond the arc.

The Greyhounds scored the first seven points of the second half, all by Brock until junior Wynn Sarden (Sterling Hts., Mich./Warren Cousino) made a lay-up at the 16:08 mark giving WSU an 11-point lead at 40-29.

A triple by Brock with 13:26 remaining made it a five-point contest at 47-42 as UI outscored the hosts 13-7 in a span of 2:30. Junior Jason Saddler (Detroit, Mich./Cody) made a lay-up for a seven point lead, but WSU went one-for-six from the field over the next 3:30 but still maintained a four point advantage.

Following a Krzyminski triple at the 9:11 mark, the visitors went on a 12-6 run over the next 4:30 to pull within one at 60-59 after a three-pointer by Jordan Barnard. Carr and UI's Tristan Rogers traded jumpers before Carr scored five straight points for a six point Warrior lead.

Wayne State maintained at least a five point lead the rest of the way.

Carr scored a career-high 28 points as he made a career-best 10 field goals. It marked the sixth time this season he reached double figures. Krzyminski added 22 points, the ninth time in 10 games he reached the 20-point plateau. Saddler contributed a personal-best four assists.

The Warriors are idle until visiting Clarion University for a non-league contest on January 3, which kicks-off a four-game road trip.
