Notre Dame, Ind. - The Wayne State University men's fencing team compiled a 3-6 record last Sunday at the Notre Dame Duals.

The Warriors began the day with a 19-8 setback to Stanford. In the epee Marek Petraszek went 3-0, but the Cardinal won all nine foil bouts. Double winners for WSU were Slava Zingerman (epee) and Bobby Smith (sabre).

In the second round, WSU fell to Notre Dame 19-8. A highlight for WSU was that both Petraszek and Zingerman went 3-0 in the epee. Michal Brichacek had Wayne State's lone foil victory, while Smith had the lone sabre triumph.

Wayne State rebounded in round three for a 17-10 win over Cal State Fullerton. both Petraszek and Zingerman went 3-0 in the epee. Brichacek and Brandon Isaac recorded foil wins, while Smith and Patrick Tomlinson each went 2-0 in sabre as CSUF traveled only two competitors in sabre.

The Warriors recorded a 15-12 win over Lawrence in round four. All three WSU epeeists, Petraszek, Zingerman and Steve Znoy, had 2-0 records vs. Lawrence as they only had two competitors. Lawrence won six of nine bouts in both foil and sabre.

WSU fell to 2-3 on the day with a 17-10 loss to UC-San Diego. The Warriors won 7-2 in the epee as both Petraszek and Zingerman went 3-0. Isaac had the lone foil win, while John Rutherford and Smith had one win each in sabre, and Znoy had a victory in the epee.

Wayne State evened its record at 3-3 with a 15-12 victory over Northwestern. Both Petraszek and Znoy had three wins in the epee, while Brichacek went 3-0 in foil and Smith was undefeated in sabre.

Ohio State defeated Wayne State, 19-8, in round seven. Zingerman won all three of his epee bouts, while Petraszek (epee) and Smith (sabre) each had two victories.

In round eight, the Warriors fell 15-12 to Detroit Mercy. All three epeeists, Petraszek, Zingermand and Znoy, went 3-0. Isaac won twice in the foil, while Smith had WSU's lone win in the sabre.

Wayne State completed the day with a 15-12 loss to Cleveland State. Both Petraszek and Zingerman recorded 3-0 marks, while Isaac had the lone foil triumph. Smith had two wins in sabre, with Rutherford and Tomlinson each recorded a victory.
