Evanston, Ill. - The Wayne State University men's fencing team compiled a 1-2 mark on Saturday at the Northwestern University Duals.
The Warriors began the day with a 24-3 setback to Penn State. Marek Petraszek had a 2-1 record in the men's epee, while Slava Zingerman recorded WSU's another win, also in the epee.
WSU bounced back to record a 14-13 triumph over Cleveland State. Wayne State won six of the nine sabre bouts as Bobby Smith won three times and John Rutherford recorded two victories. Brandon Isaac had the Warriors lone triumph in the foil. WSU won seven epee bouts with Zingerman claiming three wins and Petraszek and Steve Znoy two each.
In the final round, North Carolina defeated Wayne State 22-5. Smith had the lone sabre triumph, while Zingerman won three epee bouts. Petraszek also had an epee win.
