Steve Neal completed his first season as wide receivers coach at Wayne State in November 2007 after spending the 2006 campaign at Savannah State University as quarterbacks and wide receivers coach.

Neal previously served as wide receivers coach at Saint Joseph's (IN) in spring 2006 and at Albion College for the 2005 campaign.

He played college football at Western Michigan University where he was a four-year starter at wide receiver from 1996-2000, earning First Team All-Mid-American Conference accolades three times. Neal was also named to the Bronco All-Century Team.

His 235 career receptions including 74 in 1999 were WMU records when he graduated. His 3,599 career receiving yards is still a school record. He held three of the top four single-season receiving yards marks at WMU upon the completion of his collegiate career, while his 27 career touchdown receptions was first at WMU until 2005. He had two three-touchdown reception games in 1999 (Eastern Michigan and Missouri) and in 1997, he returned a punt 84 yards against Kent State for a score.

He was chosen to play in the Hula Bowl All-Star Game in Hawaii after his senior season, and was invited to the National Football League Scouting Combine.

Neal signed a rookie free agent contract with the NFL's Tennessee Titans in 2001. In 2001 and 2002, he attended camps and workouts with the Denver Broncos, New Orleans Saints, Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers.

He received his bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice from Western Michigan in 2000, and is completing his master's degree in Sports Management.

A native of Benton Harbor, Neal was an All-Conference and All-State performer on the football field as a junior and senior at BHHS.

He resides in Detroit and has a four-year old daughter, Teylyn Neal.
