Big Rapids, Mich. - The Wayne State University football team (6-5 overall, 6-4 GLIAC) was unable to maintain three leads (7-0, 10-7, and 17-14) in falling 21-17 in the GLIAC season finale at Ferris State (8-3 overall, 7-3 GLIAC) Saturday afternoon.

The Warriors led 7-0 less than five minutes into the contest on a two-yard run by freshman running back Joique Bell (Benton Harbor, Mich.).

FSU tied the contest on a five-yard run by John Vandenberg midway through the second quarter.

Junior place-kicker David Chudzinski (Belleville, Mich.) gave WSU its second lead with a 42-yard field goal only 45 seconds before halftime.

Vandenberg's one-yard touchdown on the first play of the fourth quarter gave the hosts a 14-10 advantage.

Wayne State then drove 67 yards with Bell scoring on a two-yard carry giving the Warriors a 17-14 lead with 12:14 left.

Ferris then drove 71 yards and scored the winning touchdown on a 33-yard pass from Ryan Kaul to Mike Guevara on a fourth-and-seven.

Bell became just the 14th NCAA Division II running back in history to surpass the 2,000-yard rushing mark in a single season.

Wayne State will open the 2007 campaign at home against Michigan Tech on Saturday, September 1.
