Don Hansen's Football Gazette released its 2007 All-Northwest Region team and two Wayne State players received all-region honors.
Sophomore running back Joique Bell (Benton Harbor, Mich.) received second team accolades as the all-purpose back, while junior Dante Dunn (Lansing, Mich./Waverly) was voted to the third team as a return specialist.
Bell was voted GLIAC Offensive Back of the Year and First Team All-GLIAC by the conference coaches after rushing for 1,427 yards, the third-highest mark in school history and 13th in NCAA Division II in 2007. His 1,823 all-purpose yards was the fifth-best mark in WSU history and he finished third in NCAA Division II in scoring at 15.3 points per game. Bell was 13th nationally in rushing yards per game (129.7) and was one of 24 candidates nationally for the Harlon Hill Trophy.
Dunn was voted to the All-GLIAC First Team as a return specialist by the league coaches. He led the GLIAC in kickoff return average (27.3) and was 16th nationally (only three players ranked ahead had more returns). His kickoff return average was best in school history for anyone with at least 11 returns in a season (had 22 kickoff returns), while his 600 kickoff return yards is third-highest single-season total in school history. Dunn ranks third in career kickoff return yards (1,174) and needs 364 kickoff return yards to tie Thabiti Williamson (1999-02) for second place. His 46 kickoff returns ranks fifth all-time at WSU. Chad Fietsam (1984-87) and Nate Bush (1993-95) are tied-for-third with 47.
