Feb. 7, 2007
DETROIT - Wayne State University head football coach Paul Winters has announced his 2007 recruiting class, consisting of 25 incoming freshmen.
"What stands out most about this class is the fact we signed young men from the best high school football programs in Michigan and Ohio!" said Winters. "We were able to recruit from traditionally strong programs such as Rockford, Canton and Allen Park in Michigan and powerhouse Ohio programs Colerain and Middletown. We also had great success in the city of Detroit as well as most of the surrounding suburbs!
"We were able to improve a number of positions, especially linebacker, defensive line and wide receiver. We improved the depth of every position except quarterback, which we addressed last year. We feel that Joe Long from Lapeer East, and Will Khoury from Canton are two of the top offensive lineman in the state. Tight end is a position that we needed to address with our top three heading into their senior season. Our staff has done an exceptional job of targeting the top student-athletes in the area and has competed well against Mid-American Conference and other GLIAC schools. With the fantastic facility improvements over the last three years, Wayne State is being held in very high regard across the Midwest!
"This 2007 class represents our commitment to recruiting quality student-athletes and competitive, talented football players."
