Wayne State University senior Chris Smilo (Canton, Mich./Plymouth Canton) will be participating in the Minnesota Vikings tryout camp for new players this weekend in Minneapolis.
Smilo in 2006: Selected WSU's Defensive Most Valuable Player after starting all 11 games ... named to the All-GLIAC Honorable Mention team ... finished tied-for-45th in NCAA Division II in sacks per game (0.7) ... recorded second career sack in Michigan Tech contest ... had 2.5 sacks and forced a fumble against Saint Joseph's ... had three assisted tackles and a quarterback hurry versus Mercyhurst ... recorded a sack, a pass break-up and a quarterback hurry at Findlay ... had a tackle for loss against Grand Valley ... made five assisted tackles at Gannon ... blocked a field goal and had a quarterback hurry versus Hillsdale ... had four tackles (2-2) including one for loss at Northwood ... selected GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the win over Ashland ... had six total tackles including a sack, a pass break-up and three quarterback hurries ... recorded a career-high 10 tackles (7-3) at Ferris State including two sacks and a forced fumble ... finished fourth in the GLIAC in sacks (7.5) ... led all WSU defensive linemen with 43 total tackles ... led the squad in tackles for loss (11), sacks and quarterback hurries (6).
