DETROIT - Wayne State University Director of Athletics Rob Fournier has announced the hiring of Chad Bush for Warrior football and basketball radio broadcasts. The former Wayne State letterwinner will join football color analyst and WSU Hall of Fame inductee Joe Gough for the upcoming campaign. In addition, WSU student Kent Herriman will serve as the sideline reporter for football games and the color analyst for basketball contests.
"It's fitting that in the long history of Wayne State University football now has three professionals in the radio booth who are all WSU people," said Fournier. "Both Chad and Joe know first-hand the perspective and tradition of football at Wayne State having played for the Tartars, and Kent brings a proven talent to complement our broadcast. It's exciting that our fans will have a knowledgeable, qualified trio paired with the professionalism and radio expertise of WDTK and its organization."
All 11 football games plus every men's basketball game will be aired on WDTK Radio (1400 AM) and streamed for free at wdtkam.com.
Bush lettered two years (1994-95) at WSU as a wide receiver and tied for the team lead in touchdown receptions in 1995 with his older brother Nate.
"It's an honor to once again be a part of the Wayne State family and the athletic program," said Bush. "I'm looking forward to being a teammate again with Joe Gough, who I played with both in high school (at Orchard Lake St. Mary's) and college."
Gough earned four letters for the Tartars (1991-94) setting the NCAA Division II record for rushing attempts in a season (385) as a senior which still stands. He completed his collegiate career with school records for rushing attempts (996) and rushing yards (4,204) while ranking second in rushing touchdowns (33) and third in total touchdowns (36). All this despite playing middle linebacker as a freshman in 1991 and finishing second on the squad with 107 tackles. He was inducted into the WSU Athletic Hall of Fame in February 2005.
"Last year, our kids learned how to compete," said Gough. "This year, they will learn how to win. This will be a year to remember for everyone associated with the program."
Herriman assisted during basketball broadcasts as a freshman and served as the sideline reporter at football games last year in addition to working as a color analyst for most of the 2005-06 WSU men's basketball radio broadcasts.
"I'm looking forward to a great year for Wayne State," said Herriman. "I am convinced that Paul Winters and David Greer have put together teams that will compete everytime they go out. I am thrilled to be part of such a talented broadcast team that will bring loyal Warriors all the action. It will be great to work alongside Joe for another season and Chad for the first time because each one of them is so talented and will make the other members of our crew that much better."
Wayne State begins its 2006 football season on Saturday, Sept. 2 at Michigan Tech. The Warriors have their season opener the following Saturday against the Saint Joseph's Pumas.
