NORTHWOOD GAME STORYLINES

Wayne State will try for back-to-back wins for the first time this season when the Warriors host Northwood this Saturday after a 34-28 triumph at Indianapolis on Oct. 20.

WSU has won two of its last three games and could post another winning season by being victorious in its remaining three games.

Last Saturday at Indianapolis, the Warriors built a 28-6 lead early in the third quarter on three touchdown runs by Joique Bell and a 68-yard pass from Bell to Travis Campbell for another score.

The Greyhounds scored the next 22 points on three touchdown drives of 55 yards or more to knot the game at 28 through three quarters.

Following a UI punt that went out of bounds at the WSU 10, Bell rambled 90 yards to equal the record for the longest touchdown run in school history.

The Warrior defense forced a punt on UI's next drive, and following a WSU punt, the Greyhounds drove to the WSU 25 but failed to convert on fourth down.

It was Wayne State's third consecutive win at Indianapolis and gives Warriors head coach Paul Winters a 2-0 mark at Key Stadium.

Bell had four rushing touchdowns for the third time this season, while Campbell's touchdown reception was the first of his career.

The Warrior defensive corps was led by linebackers Alan Guy and Tristan Black, who each recorded 11 tackles. Guy had two quarterback hurries and a pass break-up, while Black had two tackles for loss.

Brandon Cooper had two interceptions and a pass break-up with Andrew Bates contributing a fumble recovery, a pass break-up (on Indy's final play) while also blocking an extra point kick after Indy's first touchdown.

In addition, the WSU defense recorded five turnovers (three interceptions and two fumble recoveries, one of which came on a UI punt return) that resulted in Wayne State's first 21 points.

Following this Saturday's home game versus Northwood (Oct. 27), Wayne State will play two games in November - Nov. 3 at Ashland and the regular-season finale Nov. 10 against Ferris State.

IN THE POLLS

Wayne State was selected for fifth in the 2007 GLIAC pre-season coaches' poll, while Northwood was tabbed for second.

ON THE HEADSET

Wayne State's Paul Winters has a 13-26 mark in his fourth year with the Warriors. WSU is 12-12 in its last 24 games. The Warriors are 7-11 at home under Winters and have an 0-3 mark vs. Northwood.

Pat Riepma has compiled an 87-69-2 record in his 15th year at Northwood.

ALL-TIME SERIES

Northwood leads 16-12 in the all-time series which began in 1975. WSU is 6-5 at home but has lost the last four times vs. the Timberwolves in Detroit.

SCOUTING NORTHWOOD

The Timberwolves have lost four of their last five games after starting the year 2-0.

NU has five players with at least 200 yards rushing with Torris Childs having a team-high 695 yards. Spencer Klukowski has completed 44 of 80 passes in seven games for 556 yards and eight touchdowns with no interceptions.

Leroy Goulbourne has a team-best 63 tackles including four sacks.

STRICTLY BY THE NUMBERS

Bell's 90-yard touchdown run was WSU's fifth touchdown drive of at least 90 yards this season.

Senior place-kicker David Chudzinski made four extra points at Indianapolis to become the school's all-time leader.

Bell accounted for all five WSU touchdowns with a school-record tying four rushing touchdowns (third time this season) along with a 68-yard TD completion to Campbell. Bell's game-winning 90-yard touchdown run tied the WSU mark for longest touchdown run set by A.J. Vaughn on Sept. 30, 1967, against Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Bell's third touchdown run (he had one in each quarter) was set up by Bruno Shkreli's 77-yard kickoff return to the Indy two. It was the fourth-longest non-scoring kickoff return in school history.

WSU has won its last three games at Indy and the road team has won the last seven in the Warriors-Greyhounds series.

With his two interceptions at Indianapolis, sophomore Brandon Cooper moved into a tie for second in the conference with four picks. He also had two interceptions at Grand Valley.
