Wayne State University senior defensive end Chris Smilo (Canton, Mich./Plymouth Canton) has been selected Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in WSU's win over Ashland. The victory secured WSU's first winning season in more than a decade.

Smilo recorded six total tackles including five solo stops in the 33-17 triumph. He had one quarterback sack, a pass break-up and three quarterback hurries. His sack on a third-and-six from the WSU 37 in the second quarter and forced an AU punt. Smilo is sixth in the GLIAC in sacks (5.5).

The Warrior defense limited Ashland to 85 yards rushing and just three-of-14 on third down.

WSU closes out the regular season this Saturday at Ferris State.
