DETROIT - Wayne State University led all District IV Division II schools with four 2006 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District selections. The only other institution with four representatives on the district squad was Baldwin-Wallace. Only 11 of the 52 honorees came from Division II institutions. The remaining 41 selections attended NCAA Division III schools or NAIA institutions.

Senior defensive back Ryan Oshnock (Lakeview, Mich.) and senior defensive lineman Dan Barnes (Grand Ledge, Mich.) were both named to the Academic All-District First Team for the second time in their careers. Both will now appear on the national Academic All-American ballot.

Senior wide receiver Jake Weingartz (Lapeer, Mich./East) and junior offensive lineman Frank Lietke (Walled Lake, Mich./Central) were both voted to the Academic All-District IV Second Team.

The District IV Academic team was selected by members of CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) located in Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee and Alabama. College Division includes all Division II, Division III and NAIA institutions.

This is the fifth consecutive year a WSU football player has been voted to the CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team. Previous selections were Jorge Gomez (2002), Nick Pappas (2003), Ryan Oshnock (2004) and Dan Barnes (2005).
