Former Wayne State University student-athlete and head football coach Brian VanGorder has been named defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at the University of South Carolina. USC press release.

VanGorder was a four-year letterwinner (1977-80) for the Tartars under Hall of Fame coach Dick Lowry (first three seasons) and Stephen Fickert in 1980. WSU recorded 20 wins including three winning seasons during his playing days.

He also served as head coach for three seasons (1992-93-94) at WSU leading the Tartars to back-to-back winning seasons.
