ASHLAND, Ohio - Senior Steve Cuzzort (Grosse Ile, Mich.) earned medalist honors as the Wayne State golf team finished in second place overall at the Ashland University Invitational this past weekend.

Cuzzort, who was tied for fourth after shooting an even-par 72 in the first two rounds Saturday, shot a 69 on Sunday to move to the top of the field. At -3, he was the only golfer to finish the weekend under par (72-72-69--213).

As a team, the Warriors were tied for first with eventual champion Ferris State after 18 holes with a score of 287. Wayne State shot 299 in the second round to move into third place Saturday, but rebounded with a 297 on Sunday, the lowest team score of the third round.

The Bulldogs' final score of 879 was just four strokes ahead of the Warriors, who posted a combined score of 883. The host Eagles finished third (290-292-305--887).

Joe Juszczyk (Dearborn Heights, Mich./Divine Child) tied for fourth place with a six-over 222 (71-75-76), while Chad Johnson (Plymouth, Mich./Canton) was two strokes back in a tie for ninth (72-80-72--224).

Hagan Risner (Garden City, Mich.) finished in a tie for 15th (75-72-81--228), Michael Wouters (Sterling Hts., Mich./Henry Ford II) placed in a tie for 19th (72-80-80--232), and Kyle Stefan (Dearborn, Mich./Univ. of Detroit Jesuit) tied for 31st (75-81-81--237).

Peter Farner (Kalamazoo, Mich./Loy Norrix) tied for 34th (79-80-80--239), and David Anderson (Sarnia, Ont./St. Clair Secondary) tied for 39th (81-78-83--242).

Wayne State will play in the second of three Great Lakes Regional events next weekend, April 4-5, at Cherry Blossom in Georgetown, Ky.
